Alejandro Altamirano
Lecturer in Ballet and Contemporary Dance

Alejandro Altamirano was born in Santiago, Chile and has enjoyed performing with world renowned artists and production companies all over the globe. He started his dancing carrer with the Choreogapher Hugo Urrutia. Alejandro expanded his training by learning ballet at the Escuela de Ballet del Teatro Municipal, then, after winning a scholarship, he moved to England to attend the English National Ballet School. Later, he studied with the London Studio Centre where he performed all over the United Kingdom, under the direction of Margaret Barbieri.

Alejandro danced under the direction of Berta Yampolsky where he performed Symphony in C, Serenade by George Balanchine, Cinderella and Gurrelider. Later, he danced with the Ballet de Santiago in Chile. There he danced as a soloist in many productions from highly prestigious choreographers, such as John Cranko, Kenneth McMillan, Natalia Makarova, Ben Stevenson, Harold Lander, Robert Nord, George Balanchine and Ivan Nagy.

Alejandro has performed in ballet productions under Berta Yampolsky, Ivan Nagi, Mauricio Wainrot,
Mikko Nessinen, Gigi Caciulano and Victor Ullate. He has performed in prominent ballet productions such as Romeo and Juliet, Taming of the Shrew, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Swan Lake, La Bayader, Giselle, Le Sylphied, Theme and Variations, Rubies, Serenade, Mid Summer Night Dreams, Nutcracker, Carmina Burana, Manon, Don Quixote, Peer Gynt, and Etudes in many countries around the world.

Alejandro was part of the cast of Celine Dion’s A New Day, created by the eminent Franco Dragone. He was selected to dance for Gloria Estefan in the making of her new album Unwrapped and perform in her DVD, under the direction of Kenny Ortega. Alejandro has been selected among thousands of dancers worldwide to join the cast of Le Réve, another successful production under the direction of world-famous Franco Dragone.

Alejandro also worked with Stephane Boko under various projects around the world, even acting as Assistant Choreographer for the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater and the Benicazi Dance Festival in 2007.

Since 2010 Alejandro has being as a freelance dancer and Choreographer.
