Valentina’s research is on developing a practice of making theatre through enhancing the use of imagery and visual thinking, utilising her professional experience as a theatre designer, and her training as an actress. She is currently leading a Devising Theatre project on the BA Acting programme and curating the design for the final year acting productions.
She studied Art and Theatre Design in Florence at Academy of Fine Arts (BA). She took her Master’s Degree in Venice at I.U.A.V.(MA), where she graduated under the supervision of designer and director Ezio Toffolutti, presenting a devised theatre performance as her final dissertation. She also studied at the Motley Theatre Design School, London. In Florence she trained and had her first theatre experiences both as an actress and designer with Centro di Teatro Internazionale, a school and theatre company based on the Russian school of acting.
Valentina’s professional design work includes both opera and theatre. Past productions include: Dr Faustus (Cambridge Arts Theatre), The Swallows (National Theatre Studios), Pericles (Drayton Theatre- London), The Emperor of Atlantis (Arcola Theatre), La Didone (Teatro Malibran - Venice). She also worked as a design assistant in Italy at La Fenice Theatre (Venice) Teatro Stabile di Torino (Turin) and Theatre Due (Parma).
