All Programmes

At the Institute of the Arts Barcelona you can study BA (Hons) degrees in Acting, Contemporary Dance, Commercial Dance and Musical Theatre, as well as Foundation courses designed to prepare students for degree-level training.

Choosing the right course depends on your experience, interests and career goals. Whether you want to become an actor, dancer or triple-threat performer, our Admissions Team can help you identify the programme that best suits your ambitions. Explore our acting, dance and musical theatre programmes, and attend our open days and programme talks to find out more.

A BA (Hons) (Bachelor of Arts with Honours) is an undergraduate degree that combines practical conservatoire-style training with academic study. At the IAB, our BA (Hons) programmes in dance, acting and musical theatre are designed to prepare students for professional careers in the performing arts through intensive practical training, performances and industry engagement.

Foundation programmes are designed for students who need an extra year to develop their technical skills or prepare for degree-level training. BA (Hons) programmes are full undergraduate degrees that provide professional conservatoire training over three years. Many students progress from a Foundation course directly to a BA (Hons) programme at the IAB or elsewhere.

If you already meet the academic, artistic and English language requirements, you may be ready for a BA (Hons). If you would benefit from additional technical training before starting a degree, a Foundation programme could be the right choice. Our Admissions Team can help you decide which pathway best suits your experience and goals.

Yes. Many students choose to continue their training by progressing from a Foundation programme to one of our BA (Hons) degrees after successfully completing the course. You will need to successfully audition before entering a BA (Hons) degree.

Student Services

Yes. We welcome students from around the world and have an international community representing many different countries and backgrounds. Check our admission requirements and discover our dance, acting and musical theatre programmes.

Our campus is located in Sitges, a vibrant Mediterranean town just 30 minutes from Barcelona. Students on our dance, acting and musical theatre programmes enjoy an international learning environment while training close to one of Europe’s most creative cultural cities.

Currently the IAB has around 450 students across our BA (Hons) and Foundation programmes in dance, acting and musical theatre.

Students typically follow a full timetable that combines practical training, rehearsals, performances and academic modules. The exact balance varies depending on the programme and year of study, so check the timetable information on each programme page: dance, acting or musical theatre.

Contact hours vary depending on the programme and year of study. If you would like detailed information, we recommend attending one of our online Programme Talks, where the team can answer your questions. You can always connect with one of our current students using our online chat.

The academic year begins in September. Exact dates are published each year in the academic calendar. There is only one intake per year for our BA (Hons) and Foundation programmes.

Given the intensity of our programmes, while some students choose to work part-time during the academic year, many prefer to work during holiday periods so they can focus fully on their training during term time.

Yes. Teaching and assessment at the IAB are conducted in English. Check our English language requirements.

Whilst the training is intense (Monday to Friday), some students work in the evenings and at weekends, typically in hospitality, teaching in the community and babysitting.

Most students buy a bike or a skateboard to get around town. Most also live within walking distance of campus; see our accommodation page.
