Our Foundation in Acting course is designed to give you intensive training over two terms to develop your craft and confidence, preparing you to access degree-level or conservatoire training, or to start your career in the performing arts.

You will study the fundamentals of acting, based on the work of Stanislavski, Michael Chekhov and Uta Hagen, alongside voice, singing, movement and screen acting, to develop you as a versatile and confident performer.

Strengthen the foundation of Acting

Acting is about more than learning lines. It’s about truth, imagination and the ability to connect with an audience. At IAB, students build the skills and confidence they need to become expressive, versatile and thoughtful actors.

Training is grounded in Acting Practice, based on the work of Stanislavski, Michael Chekhov and Uta Hagen, alongside Acting for Screen, Voice and Speech, Singing for Actors and Movement (including Laban and Alexander Technique).

Students also train in Stage Combat, Dance and Body Conditioning, explore Theatre and Performance studies, and prepare for their next step through Career Planning, including masterclasses with agents and casting directors.

Please note

This is not a beginner course. Previous Acting training is required to join the programme, which will be assessed during the audition process.

The heart of the course. Explore the fundamentals of acting based on the work of Stanislavski, Michael Chekhov and Uta Hagen, through sensory work, text analysis, monologues and an introduction to acting for the camera.

Singing for Actors

Develop a clear, expressive and healthy voice through Voice and Speech Fundamentals, and grow in confidence with Singing for Actors.

Use your body as a storytelling tool. Build strength, awareness and physical presence through movement work, stage combat, dance and conditioning.

2. Attend the audition

What does the audition consist of?

Live Audition and Interview

You will have a 30-minute session with our staff where you will be asked to perform:

Contemporary monologue
Classical monologue
Song (Acapella or with music)

The audition will be followed by an interview.

3. Wait for the result

The audition results can take up to 4 weeks to process.

Entry criteria

Successful audition, IELTS 5.5 or equivalent, and have studied at least one year of the national university entry academic qualification or equivalent of your country.

Graduation

A graduation will be arranged by the IAB for all graduating students. Further information is provided directly to graduating students.

Award Certificate

Foundation Acting

Upon successful completion, students receive an IAB Foundation Acting Award Certificate.
