Drew is an actor, director and teacher. He trained as an actor at RADA and has worked extensively in theatre, television and film. In 2010 he gained his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Theatre Directing at Birkbeck College (University of London) and since then has been working as a theatre director with companies such as the RSC and the National Theatre, as well as on his own productions.
Drew is an Associate Acting Teacher at RADA, most recently directing the BA acting students in workshop productions of PICNIC, AGAMEMNON and PHILISTINES. He also works for the RSC’s and National Theatre’s education departments and has been a visiting director for the National Theatre’s Connections Festival from 2012 to 2015.
Drew’s directing work includes: the National Theatre’s tour of PEOPLE by Alan Bennett in 2013, originally directed by Sir Nicholas Hytner; DOCTOR FAUSTUS for Cambridge University’s Marlowe Society, at the Cambridge Arts Theatre; PERICLES at the Drayton Theatre. As an Assistant Director he has worked with Sir Nicholas Hytner, Lyndsay Posner, Nancy Meckler, Dominic Hill, and Polly Findlay among others. Notable productions are: THE CITY MADAM and A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM for the RSC; ANTIGONE, PEOPLE and UNTOLD STORIES for the National Theatre; HARVEY at the Haymarket Theatre; and PETER PAN at New Wimbledon Theatre where Drew was personal acting coach to David Hasselhoff and Jerry Springer in the role of Captain Hook.
As an actor he’s appeared in productions for the Donmar Warehouse, the RSC, Sheffield Crucible, and many theatres in London and across the UK, as well as in film and TV. He’s been directed by Declan Donnellan, Gregory Doran, Peter Greenaway, and Bill Gaskill, amongst others. Acting credits include: KING JOHN, JUBILEE, TWELFTH NIGHT (RSC); AS YOU LIKE IT (Sheffield Crucible/RSC); ANTIGONE (Old Vic); SHADOWLANDS (West End); THREE MEN IN A BOAT (York Theatre Royal); THE HYPOCHONDRIAC (Coventry Belgrade); THE SAFARI PARTY (Manchester Library Theatre); THE GENTLEMAN FROM OLMEDO and THE VENETIAN TWINS (Watermill Theatre). He also had a leading role in Peter Greenaway’s film trilogy THE TULSE LUPER SUITCASES (PART ONE: THE MOAB STORY was in competition at Cannes in 2003).
