Inside an indoor sports dome, an elite girls’ soccer team takes the field, but the game is never quite what it seems. During warm-ups, the Wolves circle, pass, and trade stories about friendship, ambition, fear, and the world unfolding beyond their suburban bubble.

Funny, fast, and unfiltered, The Wolves is a sharp portrait of teenage life in motion, where competition and connection blur and every moment of conversation becomes part of the game. When an unexpected loss disrupts their tightly held rhythm, their world begins to fracture.

Samantha Robinson

Director

Samantha Robinson is an Actress, Writer and Director and teacher based in Edinburgh.As a Director, her credits include Pool No Water, A Monster Calls, Road, The Lights, Katzenmusik, Boys, Attempts on her live, 4:48 Psychosis, Fury, The Caucasian Chalk Circle, Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again., Epic Love and Pop Songs, The Toad in the Hole, Blink, Me, Mum and the Patriarchy and Motherhood or Madness. Her work as both writer and director includes The Sixteenth, Crazy for Loving You, and From Lewisham to Llandudno which was selected for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s 37 Plays Folio. Her play Twenty People a Minute was shortlisted for the Scottish Theatre Awards. She wrote and acted in short films FunTimes and Idol. Screen acting credits include Gone, California Schemin’, Tell Me Everything, Help, Little Boy Blue, Brassic, Five days and Cilla. As well as repeated appearances on Doctors Casualty and Holby City for the BBC. Her theatre work includes A Christmas Fair (The Coliseum), Two (New Vic Theatre), Rita, Sue and Bob Too (Royal Court Theatre, London), Educating Rita (Mercury Theatre, Colchester), The Laramie Project (West End) The Tempest (Royal Exchange Theatre), and Three Sisters on Hope Street (Hampstead Theatre). She has also worked with Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, Chichester Festival Theatre and Leeds Playhouse, she has toured extensively across the UK.

Director's note

With this play the audience is invited to witness conversations they would never normally hear, chaotic, funny, cruel, vulnerable, and deeply honest. Within the team, the girls create a temporary sanctuary, a space where they can test ideas, perform confidence, reveal fear, push and hold one another before the outside world fully arrives.

Throughout rehearsals, we trained daily in soccer, building not only the physical language of the team and our fitness, but also the trust, rhythm, and instinctive connection that exists between young athletes. I wanted the audience to feel that these girls have played together for years, that the game lives in their bodies as naturally as their conversations. These characters stand on the brink of womanhood, some are desperate to grow up, while others cling to the safety before everything fractures and evolves.

During this process, I have been struck by the resilience required of both athletes and actors, the ability to keep showing up, to trust each other, to fail, and to begin again. This cast has brought so much generosity, endurance, and heart to the process, and this production is the result of that collective effort, a group of performers learning to move, think, and breathe as one team, while still holding on to the individuality of each voice within it. A huge thank you to this wonderful company, to our creative and technical team, and to IAB for giving me my first directing opportunity here in Spain.
