About HEATHERS, The Musical

Heathers The Musical is a hilarious, heartfelt, and homicidal new show based on the greatest teen comedy of all time. With its moving love story, laugh-out-loud comedy, and unflinching look at the joys and anguish of high school.
Heathers The Musical is the darkly delicious story of Veronica Sawyer, a brainy, beautiful teenage misfit who hustles her way into the most powerful and ruthless clique at Westerberg High: the Heathers.
But before she can get comfortable atop the high school food chain, Veronica falls in love with the dangerously sexy new kid J.D. When Heather Chandler, the Almighty, kicks her out of the group, Veronica decides to bite the bullet but J.D. has another plan for that bullet.

Director's note

To our wonderful audience,

Hello and welcome to our production of Heathers the Musical! It is with great joy we share our vibrant and thoughtprovoking story with you. Set against the backdrop of the tumultuous eighties high school experience, Heathers explores the complexities of adolescence laced with dark humour, huge heart and an incredible score. This musical adaptation of the iconic 1989 film delves deep into themes of love, friendship, betrayal, and the overwhelming pressure to fit in. It invites us to reflect on the societal expectations that shape our identities and the daunting quest for acceptance that many young people navigate today. At its core, the show is a story about the struggle for self-identity amidst chaos. The relatable characters each face their own set of struggles, insecurities and desires. We witness Veronica's journey as she grapples with her desire to be part of the In-Crowd while battling her conscience and moral compass. The Heathers themselves personify the pressures of popularity, revealing that even those who seem to “have it all” often carry deep-seated insecurities and fears.
We are acutely aware of the serious issues that resonate within the storyline. Bullying, mental health, the quest for acceptance (to name a few) are more relevant today than ever before. In rehearsals we have greeted these issues with kindness, empathy and understanding. We’ve also relished the challenge of handling such material, whilst
pouring passion into the dazzling music and dancing our way through the rollercoaster of a journey. Everyone has worked so hard, we’ve had a blast and hope you do too.
