Told in three acts and set in Montana and California, the play follows two families whose lives are irrevocably changed by a devastating act of domestic abuse, with their stories converging in the final scene at an isolated ranch in Montana.
The families are connected through the marriage of Jake, son of Lorraine and brother to Sally and Frankie, and Beth, daughter of Baylor and Meg and sister to Mike.
A play exploring family dysfunction, the complexities of love, and the search for meaning.

Director
The title, A Lie of the Mind, refers to the stories people tell themselves to cope with painful truths.
Throughout many of Sam Shepard's plays such as Buried Child (which earned him the 1979 Pulitzer Prize), and A Lie of the Mind, Shepard explores the complexities of human relationships, questioning whether love can survive when it becomes entangled with possession, fantasy and the desire to control another person. His work challenges the boundaries between love, obsession, truth and illusion.
“Love. Whata’ crock a shit. Love. There’s another disease. Only difference is it’s a disease that makes ya’ feel good. While it lasts. Then, when it’s gone, yer worse off than before you caught it.”
