
Jesse J Carlo, PhD
Jesse J. Carlo, PhD, is the Chair of BFA Musical Theatre and BFA Commercial Dance and Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre at Pace University in New York. He oversaw nationally recognized programs serving nearly three hundred students and forty faculty, leading initiatives in curricular innovation, program expansion, faculty development, and equity-centered pedagogy. His teaching and directing foreground antiracist, trauma-informed, and inclusive practices in theatre training and performance. Dr. Carlo earned his PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies (Humanities & Culture, Social Justice & Social Change, Theatre & Performance Studies) from Union Institute & University. He has previously held faculty and leadership positions at Columbia College Chicago, Miami Dade College, and other institutions, and has directed and choreographed productions in the United States and internationally. His scholarship focuses on radical pedagogy, equity, and the ethics of love in performing arts higher education. He servesd as Editor of Methods: A Journal of Performing Arts Practice & Pedagogy and is currently President of the Board of Trustees of the Lovewell Institute for the Creative Arts.
