Creart is an annual site-specific dance festival which is run by the second year Contemporary dance BA (Hons) students at the Institute of the Arts Barcelona. We independently programme and create the festival inspired by the location we surround ourselves in at and around the school. The festival is very community centred, with second years taking the role of choreographers and the first years as dancers, as well as some third years. As a result, this collaboration of both contemporary and commercial first years and contemporary second years, the festival and pieces created are extremely unique each year.
As the festival is site specific, the audience is guided through the performance, walking from site to site. Commercial BA (Hons) second years are commissioned to create some extra pieces to ensure the routes are coherent and physically possible for the first year dancers, resulting in a diverse programme of dance styles.
The festival always takes place in the middle of March and is open for the public to come and watch, as well as all IAB students. This year's dates are Friday, 13th and Saturday 14th March. SOOO go get your tickets now!
This year the Creart Residency is supported by the European Festivals Fund For Emerging Artists (EFFEA), an initiative of the European Festivals Association (EFA) co-funded by the European Union.
