About Anything Can Happen in the Theatre

Anything Can Happen in the Theater is a revue-type song cycle by Maury Yeston.

It takes the audience along on a journey of love, loss, passion, community and the world of theatre. The songs make you want to shimmy, move your feet and dance on the street while showcasing the highs and lows of a person’s life.

Just like every actor, every person has their own story to tell and it’s time to listen to them.

From dramatic curtains and champagne glasses to colourful lanterns, Anything Can Happen in the Theater has everything you need for a night you’ve never had before.

Director's note

When I first began thinking about the ways we could frame Gerard Alessandrini’s five- header musical revue ‘Anything Can Happen in the Theater’ (for a cast of twenty-three!) – I wanted to create more than just a revue, I wanted to craft something theatrical, moving and intricate. Maury Yeston’s amazing music and lyrics already offer a wealth of wit and humanity, but what excited me most was the opportunity to find a world where these songs could coexist seamlessly and effortlessly.

From the start, my goal was to create a high-energy journey that flows seamlessly from one number to the next. A vibrant tapestry of stories about love, community, desire, and life itself. Each of the talented performers you’re about to see brings their own individuality and heart to the piece, and it’s in those moments of honesty and playfulness that the show really comes alive.

I owe enormous thanks to Rickey Long, our Musical Director, whose musicality, creativity, and tireless work brought such depth and joy to the process. Rickey’s artistry and skill is truly the backbone of this production. Equally, my gratitude goes to Brody Buck, our stage manager, whose calm leadership, organisation, and prop-sourcing made everything run unbelievably smoothly. To our Assistants and Dance Captains, thanks for providing unending support and commitment to making the production something you all should be very proud of.

To our incredible company of second years, thank you for your energy, openness, and trust. It’s been a joy to build this show with you.

Big thank you to Nick, Emma, Adria and all of the staff from IAB for making this a phenomenal experience for everyone involved.

Enjoy the performance and remember, anything can happen…
