The Musical Theatre Summer Intensive programme at the Institute of the Arts Barcelona is a focused, conservatoire-style training programme designed for performers aged 16–24 with prior experience.
Over one or two weeks, students develop the three core disciplines: acting, singing, and dance, through daily classes such as jazz dance, ballet, singing technique, and acting through song, while also working on repertoire and ensemble pieces for a final informal performance.
Taught by industry professionals in an international environment, the course aims to refine technical skills, boost performance confidence, and give participants a realistic taste of professional musical theatre training.

What classes are included in the Musical Theatre Summer Intensive?
The Musical Theatre Intensive develops the three core disciplines: Acting, Dance, and Singing. Available at Intermediate and Elite level.
Daily sessions include:
Jazz Dance
Develop versatility, musicality, and dynamic performance skills with our jazz dance summer intensive courses.
Ballet
Build core technique through barre, centre work, alignment, and classical vocabulary.
Musical Theatre Workshops: Singing technique
Breathing, resonance, tone, range, harmony, and musicality.
Musical Theatre Workshops: Acting through song
Explore dramatic interpretation and character communication.
Musical Theatre Repertoire
Work on scenes and ensemble numbers performed in the Friday sharing.
How to apply?
Do I need to audition to join the Musical Theatre Summer Intensive?
Depending on which course you are choosing to apply for:
Musical Theatre Foundation Course
No formal audition is required.
Musical Theatre Intermediate Course
No formal audition is required.
Musical Theatre Elite Course
An audition video is required.
Please submit a 1–2 minute video showing a short clip of dance (ideally Jazz in style), and a short video of a song of your choice.
For all videos, please upload as an unlisted YouTube link and include it in your application.
Who is the Musical Theatre Summer Intensive for?
The Summer Intensive Intermediate/Elite programme is aimed at committed performers with at least three years of consistent training and a strong technical foundation.
The Summer Intensive Foundation programme is aimed at enthusiastic performers with a yearning to learn.
Applicants should outline their training and experience in the application form to ensure correct placement.
– You are under 16 or over 24 at the start of the programme (unless awarded an IAB scholarship).
– You do not meet the minimum experience requirements if unsure please email summer@iabarcelona.es
