The Acting Summer Intensive course at the Institute of the Arts Barcelona is a focused, conservatoire-style training programme designed for performers aged 16–24 with an interest in developing their acting skills in a professional environment.

 

Over one or two weeks, students take part in daily classes exploring core areas of actor training, including acting technique, movement, voice, and ensemble work. Taught by experienced industry professionals in an international setting, the course offers a practical insight into life at a performing arts conservatoire, culminating in an informal sharing of work at the end of the programme.

What classes are included in the Acting Summer Intensive?

The Acting Summer Intensive focuses on developing the core skills of the actor: acting technique, movement, and voice.
This course is offered at Intermediate level and is designed for students with some previous experience who are looking to explore conservatoire-style training in a professional environment.

 

Daily classes typically include:

Voice into Text

Develop vocal technique through accent work, flow, articulation, and text projection.

Contemporary Scene Study

Using the work of Stanislavski and his followers, students explore character, imagination, and text interpretation through group activities, exercises, and tailored scene material.

Acting Practice & Voice Preparation

Sessions to develop presence, vocal confidence, and technical performance skills.

Ensemble Work

Building collaboration, listening, and stage presence through group exercises.

Throughout the course, students will develop material introduced in class, working towards an informal sharing at the end of the programme.

Do I need to audition to join the Acting Summer Intensive?

Acting Intermediate Course

No formal audition is required.

Applicants should outline their training and experience in the application form to ensure their preparation.

Who is the Acting Summer Intensive for?

The Summer Intensive is aimed at committed performers with at least three years of consistent training and a strong technical foundation.

Applicants should outline their training and experience in the application form to ensure correct placement.

Please do not apply if:

– You are under 16 or over 24 at the start of the programme (unless awarded an IAB scholarship).
– You do not meet the minimum experience requirements if unsure please email summer@iabarcelona.es
