Contemporary Dance Videos

Have a look at our best contemporary dance videos!

We love showcasing  the work of our IAB students. Our training approach means that most of your time on the three-year BA (Hons) Dance Degree will be spent dancing. During your studies you will have multiple chances to perform, whether in a regular show performances or our film project in  the second year. These take place in various locations including in our own theatre, venues in Barcelona or site-specific locations,  often with the beach in the background!

1. The Dualities of Being

Words from the choreographer:

“What laws do we rely on to reason about our own disagreement?
What mechanisms do we apply to release and embrace the awakening of our impulses?
The plot of this piece is based on the analysis of physical energy and the unconscious behavior of the human being: our desires, phobias, tractions, potential, repressions…

“The dualities of being” refers to the capacity we have when facing our own awakening.”

Choreography by Albert Garrell

Performed by our second-year students.

This contemporary dance performance was featured in the second-year end-of-term performance.

2. Lumini

Words from the choreographer:

“Every human being is gifted with a light. Secretly held inside, it is a fuel for life able to radiate its brightness on others. As we face the challenges of life we tend to build a shell to protect it. The light fades. Something is missing and we start looking for it. In our quest for happiness we tend to look for this light outside of us.

It is when we understand that the light, this sparkle of hope and kindness, is within us that we shred the hard skin we built to illuminate the world around us. “

Choreography by Aurélien Peillex

Performed by our third-year students.

3. I Can Handle The Kick, Dear

Words from the choreographer: “I CAN HANDLE THE KICK, DEAR reflects on the concept of mass culture.
The desire of wanting to break free from a certain group of people who act according to the grade of likeability they can extract from individuals outside their own reality, conditioned by the standards they have been introduced in the current society in which we subsist.
This film investigates the constant need for approval and the struggles we face when breaking with certain stereotypes that incite us to pay less attention to the imminent kick we might receive as we begin to absent ourselves from our own freedom and essence as human beings. A game that divides and positions us between to different existences. What is it going to be? Let’s play.”

Choreography by Albert Garrell

Performed by our second-year students for their dance film project.

4. The Church Scene
