IAB and Merce Cunningham festival

Barcelona international dance film festival Choreoscope, the Institute of Arts Barcelona, Plató del Cinema, and students from Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya and Taller de Músics, will host a workshop with Trevor Carlson using the four processes Cunningham highlighted in his text “Four Events that Have Led to Large Discoveries” (1-6 October). IAB will host in the days 1-4 October students of the partner institutions  that will work with IAB MA Dance Students and 3rd-year BA Contemporary Dance, creating 6 choreographies and dance films inspired by Cunningham’s work. In the following days, IAB students will move to Plató del Cinema venues for the final filming, culminating in a screening of the screendances made by the students in Choreoscope.

The event is official part of the Official Programme For Global Centennial Celebration of Merce Cunningham, as announced by the Merce Cunningham Trust

General coordination of the project is Lorand Janos, Artistic Director of Choreoscope. Coordinators for the IAB are Armando Rotondi and Jennifer Blake with Greg McPherson and Stefano Rosati.
