Meet Director Kellie Hughes

Director Kellie Hughes is visiting from Ireland to give the Acting students a masterclass on her creative process on Tuesday the 8th May. Professor and Director in Residence at University College Dublin UCD, Kellie is also director of the company “The Emergency Room” founded by the famous actress Olwen Fouéré.

Kellie Hughes is a director, actor and theatre maker. Hughes trained at Ecole de Mime Corporel Dramatique, London and Centre Artistique International Roy Hart, Maleragues. She holds a first class BA honours in Theatre and History and an MA honours in Physical Theatre. 

In 2004, Hughes returned to Ireland and joined Blue Raincoat Theatre Company, where she worked as an ensemble performer for seven years, collaborating on the creation of new works, interpreting modern classic texts and directing on occasion, most notably the Yeats Project’s productions of The Cat and the Moon and At the Hawk’s Well. Hughes is currently Director in Residence at University College Dublin.

Collaborations with Galway International Arts Festival and TheEmergencyRoom include co–direction of Olwen Fouéré’s riverrun and Samuel Beckett’s Lessness. Death at Intervals, adapted by Hughes from José Saramago’s novel of the same name, premiered at GIAF 2016 and toured to Dublin Theatre Festival, 2016.
